At Mariposa Kids, summer is about more than just keeping kids busy—it's about creating a community where children can explore, imagine, and grow together. Our 8-weeks of programming is built on the belief that the best learning happens through free play, meaningful friendships, and joyful discovery. Each themed week offers a fresh adventure that weaves together social-emotional learning and creative expression, and some weeks include language/literacy and STEM exploration too. Children enjoy the freedom to play, connect across age groups, and simply be kids!

We're a screen free environment with one themed aligned child-friendly movie played on Friday mornings.

We've been receiving multiple inquiries on our age requirements to attend. There is no flexibility with our age requirement. Children must be within this age range at the time of camp starting.

What you can expect from Mariposa Kids' Summer Camp?
  • FREE PLAY: Mariposa Kids' summer camps are meant to inspire and support children's natural curiosity and independence through free play in safe spaces. Through opportunities to play freely and participate in themed planned activities, children will have fun while making new friends and lasting memories. Overall, our program is focused on allowing children to have opportunities for unstructured playtime providing them with the social-emotional developmental benefits associated with free play.
  • OUTDOOR TIME: We spend approximately 50% of our time outdoors with both free play and planned activities.
  • SCREEN-FREE TIME: You can expect your child to be in a screen-free environment (including restrictions on smartwatches and home devices) with one special Friday morning movie shown related to the week's theme. Alternative activities are provided for children who do not want to watch the Friday movie.
  • SNACKS & LUNCHES: We provide two healthy snacks each day (one in the AM and one in the PM). Your child needs to arrive with their own packed lunch. They are welcome to bring additional snacks if they would like. Please no candy or gum.
  • PUBLIC PARKS: We are proud to be based in the Mission District & Bernal Heights neighborhoods of SF and have a long history of activating public spaces with our our-of-school time programming in our neighborhoods. Public spaces are sometimes used by members of the public that we do not have control over. In keeping with our organizational values, we believe in a community approach to safety and well-being for both kids in our programs and others using these spaces. We ask all families joining Mariposa Kids programming to be mindful of their own possible implicit biases  and to have a conversation with leadership staff if you have concerns or interested in learning more about our community centered approach to public spaces.
