Position DescriptionReporting to the Board of Directors, the Director of Operations & Strategy will have overall strategic and operational responsibility to lead Mariposa Kids Community Project in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission and delivers consistent and high quality programs, financial management and administration, fundraising, communications, and organizational systems. Duties and
Responsibilities include: 1) Strategic and Operational Leadership:Participate in the development of a strong Board of Directors, including convening and communicating effectively with Board Members and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information requested by the Board or agreed to in advance to be shared regularly as well as necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.Work proactively with staff and Board to develop and ensure strategic plans are active and engaged, including recommending timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.Oversee operations, resources, programs, and excellence, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.Collaborate closely with and support the Program Director to insure programmatic excellence in daily execution of program, constituent engagement and responsiveness to community needs.
2) Financial Management: Maintain and develop organizational policies, procedures, and practices laid out in the organization’s accounting manual to protect and improve the financial health of the organization, including oversight of daily financial tasks These tasks include (but are not limited to) approving financial reports, managing cash flow, overseeing expenditures, process payroll and reconciliations.Ensure the organization operates within approved budgetary guidelines, that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work, that available resources are maximized, and the organization maintains a positive financial positionDevelop and submit a proposed annual budget to the Board of Directors and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization
3) Human Resources:Maintain a climate which attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse staff of quality people.Maintain and update the employee handbook to ensure sound human resource practices are in place across the organizationEstablish and maintain employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit, ensuring sound human resource practices are in place across the organization.Directly supervise and work closely with the Program Director to implement recruitment, employment, management, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.Encourage internal leadership and staff development and assist all program staff in creating short-term and long-term development goals.Interviewing, hiring, and onboarding in accordance with applicable policies, laws and best practice.
4) Fundraising and Communications:Implement and expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and strategic improvement plans in service of Mariposa Kids’ mission.Develop and run communications programs in multiple channels -- including web, social, and in-person -- to increase community awareness and create new partnership opportunities.Serve as Mariposa Kids’ primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.Implement and oversee processes and software tools for managing enrollment and enrollee communications.
5) Other Operational and Strategic Responsibilities:Collaborate with the Program Director to bring in unique activities, services, and experiences for program participants, establishing and managing relationships with organizations and individuals to strategically enhance mission achievement.Oversee facilities operations and management, including maintenance, upkeep, and its appropriate and effective use by Mariposa Kids and any community partner or subtenant. Review and approve all contracts for services, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization where authority is delegated by the Board of Directors.Maintain appropriate insurance policies and accounts for program, as needed. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Professional Qualifications:A Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of demonstrated experience in a relevant leadership role and/or increasing levels of responsibility in nonprofit, administration, education, childcare, or other related field or a Master’s degree in a related field and 2+ years of demonstrated experience preferred.Transparent and high integrity leadershipFamiliarity with Quickbooks and budget managementLove for learning!
Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitationAbility to convey a vision of The Kids Co-op, Inc.’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donorsKnowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sectorSkills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteersStrong written and oral communication skillsAbility to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groupsDemonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staffStrong public speaking abilityBilingual in Spanish and English
Employment Relations & CompensationThis is an exempt, salaried and full time position. Compensation is based on education and experience: $60,000 - $70,000.
