Mariposa Kids is a 501c3 non-profit organization that raises funds each year to provide quality programming for children ages 5-11 during their out-of-school time hours. In 2024, we kicked off our new three-year strategic initiative, POWER OF PLAY, focusing our efforts in four key areas:

  1. Extend the Power of Play: Increase the value placed on play in child development & enhance our organization's visibility in San Francisco
  2. Deepen Our Community Impact: Increase services & engagement for those we already serve
  3. Elevate Programs & People: Increase program quality through data improvement & continued staff development
  4. Broaden Our Presence in SF: Increase the number of children and families we serve.
In 2025, Mariposa Kids:
  • Led our Summer Collaborative with seven other nonprofits, raising $1.5M for 3,000+ children across San Francisco
  • Expanded our partnership with Leonard Flynn Elementary School (SFUSD school) to provide free lunch recess supervision and play engagement for students
  • Launched our Children & Family Program providing children ages 2-5 with free morning playgroups during the school year.
  • Launched Across the Board, Across San Francisco connecting 19 nonprofits with community board members to support nonprofit growth
  • Kicked off Urban Wall Gardens, bringing 50+ gardens to five children's nonprofits across San Francisco
Your gift today will move our work forward in 2026 with key goals that include:
  • Expanding our Children & Family Program for children ages 1-5 to our Bernal Heights Clubhouse, doubling our reach
  • Continue our Flynn Elementary lunch recess project
  • Increase wages for our staff (The Prosperity Initiative's most recent report highlights how 66% of youth serving employees in SF are making less than the median wage for Northern California)
Children deserve spaces to PLAY! Childhoods are being negatively impacted by increases in screen usage, tightly scheduled days, and reduced access to outdoor time. MK flips this narrative providing opportunities for children to explore who they are and how they engage with the world through social emotional development from free play with other kids.
